SCARIEST DRUGS YOU MIGHT HAVEN’T EVEN HEARD OF

Posted on Updated on

We have all heard about the harms caused  by narcotic drugs like Morphine, Heroin , LSD however i came across a few drugs which puts the toxicity of these family of drugs to new heights . I will mention a few which i read –

1) Scopolamine – Also called the Devils breath . The most problematic aspect of this drug is that it doesn’t have any taste or smell so it can be taken  by a person undetected or even blown  into a person’s face like some talc . Scopolamine blocks neurotransmitters that carry information to the part of the brain that stores short-term memory, In other words, what happens to people under the effect of scopolamine is simply not recorded by the brain. At the same time, the drug makes people more open to suggestions.Hence it is also called a zombie drug because a person can do anything under such a state which can persist for 24 hours and since the information is not recorded by the brain he doesn’t remember anything .These aspects of the drug was also utilized by criminologists as a truth serum to get a confession from criminals but the side effects were so severe that it’s use has been banned now .

2) Bromo-DragonFLY-  It’s  a psychedelic drug  related to the phenylethylamine  family. Bromo-DragonFLY is considered an extremely potent hallucinogen, only slightly less potent than LSD with a normal dose in the region of 200 μg  to 800 μg, and it has an extremely long duration of action up to three days . That’s not all the consumption of this drug leads to seizures , asphyxia, vomiting blood and even amputation of arms and legs as it leads to appearance of gangrene after a few days in excess doses .

3) Jenkem – It may not be unique in it’s effects but its’ origin is the most freaking of all . It is obtained by fermentation of human faecal matter . It originated in zambia (Africa ) and spread in America during 1990’s . People sniffing it tend to have hallucinations for an hour or so .

4) DNP (2,4-Dintrophenol ) – Remember seeing all those quickly lose weight ads well there is a drug which can be called as a dieting drug this is  it . In fact it was widely used by pharmaceutical companies as a medicine to reduce  weight . The reason why it can do this is by inhibiting ATP formation no matter what you eat . Hence to obtain energy for performing body activities it burns all the fat .The factor that limits ever-increasing doses of DNP is not a lack of ATP energy production, but rather an excessive rise in body temperature due to the heat produced during uncoupling. Accordingly, DNP overdose will cause fatal hperthermia so much so that the person feels like he is cooking from inside .

5) Etorphine – First thing first , this drug was never made for human consumption in the first place even though it is an analgesic like Morphine except that it is 3000-5000 times stronger than it . It is commercially used in zoos to immobilize large animals like elephants or rhinos . Such is the potency of this drug that 0.01g of it can render an elephant unconcious . Surprisingly it is one of the drug commonly used in Tv shows like Vampire Diaries , The office etc .

6) DMHP– Dimethylheptylpyran or (DMHP) for short was discovered in 1949. This synthetic analogue of THC is a pale yellowish oil. The effects are similar to THC, but far more potent. The effects include sedation, analgesic, anticonvulsant, and a mild hallucinogenic effect. It’s however so potent that 0.002g of it can make anyone high as a kite . -The US military once invested the possible use of DMHP as a possible non-lethal incapacitant. It was investigated extensively in the Edgewood Arsenal experiments, all volunteers of the program were incapacitated for a period of two to three days. Why Kill soldiers when you can be  friends with them may be that’s what they thought .

7) Desomorphine – Also called Krokodil (you’ll know why after you read this para) The traditional synthesis of desomorphine starts from chlorocodide , which is itself obtained by reacting thionyl chloride  with codeine. The drug can also  be made from codeine and iodine  derived from OTC medications and red phosphorus  from match strikers. Desomorphine typically has large amounts of toxic  substances due to the majority of it being produced by non-professionals. Injecting desomorphine can cause serious damage of the skin , muscles , blood vessels  and bones  sometimes requiring limb amputation in long-term users. The large volume of tissue damage/infection is what gained the drug it’s nickname of the flesh eating  drug hence the name krokodil .
